AUCTION PINOCHLE WIHTOUT WIDO
INDIVIDUAL PLAY: GAME 1,000 POINTS

The object of this version of Auction Pinochle is to win the game by scoring 1,000 or more points before anyone of your opponents. When you are the bidder, you try to score enough points to cover your bid and thus avoid going into the hole. Actually, the play and rules are the same as for Auction Pinochle with Wido: Game-1,000 Points, except for the following:
The Deal. Whether there are three or four players in the game, the deal goes the same. If four, each is dealt 12 cards, four at a time, starting with the leader (the player to the dealer’s left) and rotating clockwise, the dealer including himself in the deal. If three, each player is dealt 16 cards, four at a time, in the same way.
The Bidding. The leader may (a) pass, or (b) bid any amount he thinks he can make with the hand just dealt to him. In this version of Pinochle there is no stipulated minimum bid. The first bidder may make any bid he elects. Thereafter, each successive bidder (the bid going to the left, clockwise) must bid at least 10 points higher than the previous bidder; bidding can be done only in multiples of 10. A player who has passed cannot bid again during the same hand. A bidder cannot alter the amount of his uttered bid. If all players pass, the deal moves on to the player at the left of the one who dealt that hand.
Naming Trump and Melding. The highest bidder, that is, the play player who won the auction, has the right to name as trump any suit he chooses. After the bidder has named the trump suit, all players including him lay down their melds; the scorekeeper, after verifying the claims, enters each player’s melds on the sheet under each name. The number of points bid is also noted on the score sheet. The Play. After the melds have been recorded, the cards are restored to the player’s hands and the play begins as described on.
Failure to Make the Bid. If the total in melds and points won in tricks does not contain enough points to equal the bid or to or exceed it, the bidder loses. The hand, his melds for that hand already scored, and the to amount that he bid are all subtracted from his and score. He may find himself in the hole for the amount bid if he had no previous score; or he may be holed for the difference between his losing bid and his previous score if the former exceeds the latter. His deficit is indicated by a minus sign on his score. An additional sum may be assessed against the bidder for failure, to make his bid, collectible by each other the player-if the penalty is mutually agreed the upon before the start of the game. The tree, penalty is usually one-quarter of the amount staked by the player on the game.

Partnership Auction Pinochle without Widow: Game-1,000 Points

Like other 1,000-point partnership Pinochle may games, the object of this contest is for one partnership to win the game by scoring 1,000 left, or more points before the other partnership does. If both partnerships score 1,000 or lone more points on the same hand, the partnership that won the game-going bid on the last hand is the winner. Requirements for play and the steps taken before the actual deal are the same as in other partnership Pinochle games.
The Deal. To each player, including himself, the dealer deals 12 cards, three at a time, starting with the leader and dealing clockwise suit until the entire pack has been distributed.
Informatory Bidding. It is permissible to lay make informatory bids in this game, although all bidding must be in multiples of 10. Thus, a player cannot bid 105 to notify his partner he has five aces. Here are sample informatory bids:

  1. The first bidder says 120. He is notifying his partner he holds a 20 meld.
  2. The bidder says 200. He means he has 100 points in meld.

In comparison with the delicate and ornate Contract Bridge conventions, this is, of course, fairly rudimentary. The only informatory bid absolutely prohibited is one that instructs one’s partner (a) what suit to make trump if the team wins the bid, or (b) the number of cards one holds in a certain suit. As in Bridge, the leader is in the best position to bid informatively, because at his stage of the first round the bidding has not yet reached a forbidding point total.
Partners may at the start of the game discuss what kind of informatory bids they propose to use; but it is not compulsory that they use such bids, nor, if such bids are used, is it compulsory that they mean what has been agreed. Such bids are to be liberally constructed, and are used at the player’s risk.
The leader is the first bidder. For the subsequent play that is, bidding, naming trump, melding, the play, failure to make the bid, winning poker game, in-the-hole payoffs, additional rules and all else apply rules as set forth.
